The Low Down
A quick, rushed post to say a big thank you to everyone for most kind comments on earlier posts and huge apologies for taking so long to say how grateful I am for your wonderful company here. Thank you so much!
It has been a strange year, more of which later but a quick clue lies in the fact that I can lay almost all the blame at the hands of Donald Trump and his little fingers but then that gives him almost too much credit so I stay quiet. Sort of.
I can’t tell you how many posts I have wanted to write about life here on the thin Trump line but then why torture any of us any more than we already are. Stay positive I keep telling myself. It’s an exhausting process.
This year I have spent far more time than ever walking 5th Ave to Trump Tower trying to get under the skin of the devotees who flock there to have proud pictures taken. There’s a decent enough coffee place in the atrium at the back of the tower complete with armed police and I’m not sure what it is I think might ever happen there. I hope nothing happens there, here or anywhere, given the sci-fi dystopian fire and fury so often vented by this fearless leader of the free world.
But that’s not what all this started out being about. Promise!
The photos here? They’re a mood thing. That’s all. No more, no less.
Very much looking forward to catching up with you all and once again . . .
THANK YOU!
A strange year indeed…
Crickey yes. Live long enough and you see the beginnings of the strangest re-runs. . . .
I love the contrasty images you post Patti 😀 You think you could share your mood over a beer with me ? I could use some of your “mood” in my images. Send me a B&W when you get a chance we miss you over at Monochromia.
Joe, I know just the place for sharing this mood with an ipa, and a jukebox! Thank you as ever for kind words and huge support. Will definitely shoot you over a B&W or two asap. Love your Montauk shots, looks like a great get away place. Out of season!
You’re very welcome Patti. I like walking on 5th. Your photos make me feel I do. 🙂
(Now devotees flocking to take pictures at the Trump tower? God have mercy on us)
So lovely having your company on the walk thank you Brian. They also buy stuff at the gift shop . . .
Effigies of the Orange man. You must be joking? (Pronounced as Posh as possible)
well my husband was just noting how folks have Trump fatigue – he was making some videos for a small group promo – and was not making fun – just using some clips – but they were getting old because of the fatigue – and I am just praying and praying
I hear you about the fatigue which is a worry in itself with complacency not far away and before you know it it’s a “honey I’m home!” and more trouble.
not to get all religious on ya – but noting agin that I pray…
oh and the light in the photos is cool and seems like spotlights
Thank you Prior, I like what you say about cool – still so warm here 😟
🙂
Taking good photos is all one can do, or grow flowers, read a few nice words or…just nothing much. He is a worry.
I think he’s counting on us doing nothing much, beating us into submission so he can pillage the joint.
“Stay positive!” that’s it!
great snaps, love the mood thing 🙂
Amazing street portraits with city backdrop!
You are so kind, thank you Alexander. Most appreciated!
Patti, it is not about me it is about your artistic projects!
Love the third shot – great street catch 🙂 I also love that dad and daughter shot at the top. Welcome back Patti 🙂
So sweet of you to say. Thank you Martin & hope all fine with you in Brexit land!
That thin Trump line is one of criminality. Best regards.
And everday Bumba that line gets thinner and thinner ….
The best sign I have seen in front of the tower reads : Tourists – Trump Tower is NOT America!!
There will always be the one or two doing selfies but nothing like the many right after the election. His days are numbered … hang in there!!
Hanging in there Pat!
I wonder about anyone who has not been deeply, terribly affected by 45.
Thank you for getting under the skin of those misquided folks who find any good in him.
XOXO
Hey Laurie, not sure we’ve seen the worst yet. I still think we have a way to go before his biggest fans see the light 😢
I miss your posts, Patti. – I can understand this feeling but do not let it get you… …keep your head up high, your nose in the wind… …preserve your resistance… …and share the positive energy of your fellows at your side.
Wish you all the best, Markus
Great words and huge thanks to you Markus for your encouragement and positive energy here. I shall heed them as well as treasure them!
All I know is, your take on things is always interesting to me. Don’t worry about torturing me, just write and photograph what comes naturally. Already, your comments above are intriguing, leaving me wanting to know more. I know it’s discouraging – so much is these days – but you have a sense of humanity, of humaneness, that informs whatever you do, whether it’s a picture of a Trump admirer or a passer-by. That can be an antidote to much that is too harsh, too frustrating, too inhumane. I love the last photo here – the guy with the bottles, the woman with her phone, and the fading elegance of the woman in the center.
Thank you Lyn for your continuing moral support here, we’re sort of all in this together!
I feel so terribly sorry for you over there having to cope with him.
Very interesting photos, Patti. It makes a deep impact.
You know you’re in trouble when George Bush is beginning to look like an upright statesman . . . thank you Dina for kind words and solace!
Trying to catch up with everyone seems to be a losing proposition for me. But I keep trying. Just know that you are in my thoughts. Maybe not always. But enough so that I feel guilty not commenting as much as I would like. 🙂
Oh please Emilio, don’t feel guilty – I have more than enough of it for everyone! With you on the struggle to keep up but then I think what’s the rush, we get there eventually, it’s not do or die. Always good to hear from you in your own good time. Thank you!
Hi Patti, Late to the party on this post which I love. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here and on Twitter.. I am with you. Hope you are doing well.
Never too late Jane, I haven’t even moved on from here and that might take some time what with my lethargy. Thank you so much for your company over on Twitter which is usually my way of throwing a brick through the tele and very much talking to myself in the process. Always lovely visiting your enlightening and illuminating shots!
Excellent collection of street shots.
My grateful thanks to you Rabirius!
I try to avoid reading news. It looms, though. Heavily. I hear snippets and see bold headlines that sicken me then avert my eyes and I read obsessively- beach fiction free from the library app. Trying to escape our reality. It doesn’t work.
I like your mood Gallery.
Absolutely understand Ruth, there’s no hiding is there!!!
You are so right. It’s depressing.
Great 🙂
Dear Patti, I miss you and your photographs. Just a note to say hello. The strangeness in our world continues. Hope all is well. Best,
Ruth in Pittburgh
Hi Patti. Missing you and your pix. Hope all is well.
Brian
Hello there Brian, you’re so sweet for popping in here when I have been away for too long. Hugest thank you and seriously hope to be back on board here soon. Trust all well with you in your part of the world! xxx
