Young, Older and In-Between
An absolute hodgepodge of noisy, grainy, gritty colour this week on the streets of New York. Just for a change.
All sorts of ages and stages but just like the Naked Cowgirl somehow managing to keep it together.
For better or worse.
Love the “images” (notice no typo here) Patti 😀 The deep rich tones and shadows really bring out the mood of the city. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it in and do some shooting with you very soon.
That’s so kind of you to say, thank you Joe and look forward to catching up with you soon!
A $1 pizza? Another visit to NYC with the brave naked cow-girl a crowd stopper.
Pizza is all yours Gerard! As for the N C-G, well, she does tend to stop a certain type . . .
I love how every photo has a main subject, then some background detail, then some more, then a little bit more… It’s an incredibly complex human landscape!
I appreciate your comment, thank you so much Fabrizio, particularly about the human complexity which is what I am attempting to portray here. All the shots were taken one after the other within 90 minutes of walking the streets. Turns out the walking is not the exhausting part!
All in an hour and half? Wow, that’s impressive!
Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Excellent.
Thank you Gaynor! Is that your favourite shot here? My first reaction on finding this scene, after the bride and groom on the other corner, was to ask myself Why? Why are they bothering to do this? I asked myself that about the bride and groom as well. So many questions! I’ve lost any romanticism I might once have had about anything breakfasty at Tiffany’s which to me has always been sad, sad, sad and that’s starting with the book.
we can always do better that’s what my father taught me….and the life and people on your ny streets are so exciting and dynamic I believe in the best! Always love your work Patti and the images you capture…all wonderful and great expressions…have a fun day! Sending joy from etown ☺️ hedy 😀
Thank you so much for the wonderful support here Hedy and what encouraging words from your father to inspire you. I was so close to not following through with the “post” button here. It felt messy, not at all cohesive, no narrative, so random, not pretty at all, so naked and really not that good at all. All it is is super raw and that’s just how it felt in real time, all over the place and more. Welcome to NYC!
Trust you are enjoying a great summer up in your incredible part of the world Hedy!
you’re feelings have feelings ☺️ it has a feeling for me of diversity and reflection…there are few people in our streets at times so I revel in the beingness of ny 🤓☺️ enjoy the beauty!
Thank you Hedy! 😘
Nice shots. Be careful. Grainy and gritty are not far removed from seedy and sleazy.
Not going to argue with you Bumba!
It’s always interesting to look at your street photography, so many different kind of humanity…wow!
robert
As they say,it takes all sorts and they all seem to be here in NYC. Thank you Robert!
Great work ! I really love the atmosphere of your street shots plenty amazing people.
Thank you so much kind Carlos!
Hodge podge for sure! That first person looks like she belongs in Seattle…and that’s no compliment. 😉 I like what happened in the 9th one (guy looking at his cell with NYPD behind) – that was an interesting mix. Which the whole always is, and I always enjoy the dizzying dash through the streets with you, Patti. Still very familiar, even as the time since I lived there lengthens. I enjoyed your back & forth with Hedy…and agree with her that you present an immersion into the beingness of the streets of NY, pretty, ugly, and in between.
So funny what you say Lyn! I love the woman in the first shot, Trader Joe’s and a cigarette but seriously NY is full of women who don’t give a damn and bad luck if you mess with them. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know about the place already. I wince overtime I see the naked cow girl, there’s a reason we wear clothes but then . . . the guys who pose with her, fully clothed, don’t tend to be oil paintings either. She’s out there and proud whether we like it or not while other women of a certain age are picking fights with supermarket cashiers about this week’s special discount. Perhaps the cowgirl does this as well! Love your company here as always and can’t wait to see you back here one day soon!
Actually I missed the TJ’s bag, but since she’s smoking, that disqualifies her from being mistaken for a Seattleite. We don’t pollute here. Not as much as others, anyway. We’re better, dontcha know? It was mainly her sloppy disregard for herself that put her in the running to be a true Pacific Northwest resident. If you mess with the women/men/others here they will be oh so polite, which does make life simpler, or at lest less stressful, but also less colorful.
Yes, there’s a reason we have clothes, and it’s not just for protection – please! Do you know there’s an annual naked bike race here? I can’t do it, Patti, I just can’t . Real Photographers flock to it. I do hear you though about choices – your description is perfect! (God, did I argue with the cashier today? No, whew!).
You have captured so much here. What’s not to love about NY if this is what you can experience in 90 minutes! But of course, the skill is photographing these people ‘in situ’ being themselves which you do so amazingly well.
This part of town is definitely a state of mind place either best avoided or totally surrendered to, depends on the mood! Thank you so much Zita for kind words here, most appreciated! xxx
Wow! I’m not sure I would remember to take pictures in the midst of this parade of people.
Doing it here for you Margy so you don’t have to!
Fascinating captures of a magical city. I love the way you see the world.
Bet you can’t wait to come back again lovely Alys, thank you!
Thank you, Patti. Future New York visits are definitely in the plans. Hopefully a longer visit with you next time, too.
Wow, Patti! You have captured the energy and uniqueness of humanity.
We have to be grateful for certain uniqueness of humanity, thank you Laurie!
That is interesting 🙂
Appreciate your verdict, thank you Joshi!
omg, did you capture this on the same day? all these crazy (in the good sense) characters in the street… what a city! what a set of photos! ♥
In lust we trust? I love Babylon. Love that city.
Expect the unexpected . . . . thank you Brian!
That last one looks kind of like a recreation of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
