High Plains Kansas
Road tripping shots from the High Plains of south-west Kansas. My most grateful thanks to generous friends, old and new, for their wonderful hospitality and the opportunity to catch up with them in this special part of the world.
See you again sooner rather than later I hope and thank you forever!
Beautiful photos of the state I call home.
Thank you so much Ilsa and great to have enjoyed your lovely home state!
Fantastic series– the interiors, the curtain, blinds. Terrific study of an abandoned home, Patti. I also love the silos and farms. Road trips are great fun.
Thank you Jane for your kind words and yes, it was great fun!
What a remarkable space to be able to explore and photograph. Must have been fun!
Thank you Gill, so much to explore!
Brilliant series.
Thank you so much Rabirius!
WOW these images are fantastic Patti I love them 😀 I am so used to seeing your images from Manhattan that these seem a little strange. Being in a place this rural must seem foreign to you also.
Such an interesting comment thank you Joe and I shall leave it at that before this reply turns into an essay on the search of self in place through photography!!!
LOL
What powerful images. I can almost smell the dust and hear the silence. A long way from the streets of NY!
I think the silence is so you can be on the hear-out for rattlesnakes . . . . thank you Zita!
Great shots and the BB cosy and intimate. 😉 I just love it when remnants of past lives are still around. Well done, Patti.
Too funny Gerard! Agree about the past lives, it must have been tough out there. Actually, it was tough out there.
You have an unique style, Patti. Still your inspiring colour work. Such a powerful photo series and a wonderful study.
Absolutely touched by your kind words, thank you Stefan.
A lovely soliloquy. Smallville is so different to Metropolis.
Thanks for taking us along, high plains drifter.
Thank you yes Lignum, very different indeed but as different as our views are we are all of us at some kitchen sink pondering pretty much the same hopes & thoughts . .. . So pleased you enjoyed the drifting!
Great captures, Patti!
Thank you so much Dina!
Wonderful shots!
Thank you Bumba!
great mix between the wide open and all that details. Like that!
The place to be if you like wide open spaces, thank you Markus!
Great shots Patti but you could have found a better B & B…. 🙂
Hahaha Burgess, as much as I like wide open spaces . . . . .
Maybe it’s the Halloween influence and the fact it’s a dark, grey day here, but so many of those photos are incredibly creepy! Stunning, but a bit scary. 🙂
I hear you Alison, the creepy part was maybe going through the floorboards and meeting some rattle snakes . . . .
Love that road Patti, the silos and the open spaces. But it’s the curtain shot which impress me so much, great powerful shot.
robert
Lovely to hear, thank you so much Robert. A little fresh air goes a long way . . .
Splendid photos! I don’t often think at visiting the States, but if ever did I’ve got to say that Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas are places I’d like to see. They convey that – cliche, I know – image of “the great west”.
So many exciting parts of the US to explore and I certainly hope you manage to get here. Thank you Awty for your kind words!
You’re welcome, I’m a great fan of your blog, always some brilliant photos!
Love this flat land pictures!
You’ve come to the right place for flat land love Alexander. Thank you!
that is amazing 🙂
Thank you Joshi!
Hi Patti – I love your overall vision here, such an enjoyable experience to take in the wide road and landscape, then slowly narrow it down to the particulars – and what interesting particulars you settle on. That curtain is sublime. I’m glad you had some time to explore – happy weekend!
Gosh thank you Lyn and especially for the part about narrowing it down! It really was a lovely time away, my first solo road trip adventure and can’t wait to do it again. Everything fine with you I hope!
Solo? I didn’t know. That’s great. I like solo AND i like traveling together. Both have advantages – it’s so much fun to share the discoveries, and it can be so lonely when you travel by yourself, but it makes you so strong. That feels very, very good to me.
So agree with you Lyn!
wow, now i would have loved to see something like that!! awesome photos Patti. ive only been to Kansas once..Topeka to be exact :0 and i dont care to ever go back :))
Thank you Kath and sorry to hear about your Topeka doldrums . . . which I have to admit has me intrigued but I shan’t pry!
Your too funny Patti, it just wasn’t a place I’d go back to.
Amazing shots, just love the feeling of life held still and preserved, always leaves huge questions and stories behind. I’d love to travel here..
Thank you so much Cath and hope you do get to travel out there, you would love it!
Wow! The accommodation looks terrific and as for those wide vista, certainly a place to escape to and a chance for some different type of searching and observation through your lens. I am so looking forward to the journey through your future “road trips”. I hope you have a great week Patti.
Thank you James for your lovely warm words and trust all well with you!
You are more than welcome Patti and I am doing fine thanks apart from a bout of depression.
James, so sorry to hear ….
A huge thanks Patti and managing it really well now. Here’s wishing you a really wonderful Christmas and may the New Year bring health, love and happiness. Looking forward to a great and positive New Year. James x
I love it that even in your shots that have no people – they are full of people! Fantastic set, Patti!
Such a good way of putting it, thank you Richard!
You know, Patti, we often show images of the outside of decaying homes and wonder about those who lived there. Your sharing of the old phone, the ice cube trays, the sink make me wonder even more about the former inhabitants.
Messages in a bottle . . . . thank you so much Laurie!
Fascinating slices of life Patti
Thank you Martin, it’s a fascinating part of the world!
The openness of the road found in the States is something I’ll never forget it’s awesome. Sounds like you had a great road trip Patti . Marvellous to stop as and when …and take a closer look . What a life story there must be contained amongst the dusty broken household effects …. intriguing . Great captures Patti .
Lovely to hear from you, thank you Poppy and so good to know you enjoyed that open road experience. The area is rich with pioneer history and wow how tough it was!
What a stunning and expressive series, Patti!!
Exploring Kansas with you sounds like a good idea 🙂 Very cinematographic shots – if I used the term properly. Thank you for sharing, Patti!
