Radiator Woman
My recent walk through the Hunts Point section of the Bronx came with the eerie soundtrack of the Mister Softee Cones Shakes and Sundaes tinkle, heard but unseen, from corner to corner and so many blocks in between till at last the showdown took place. Mister Softee may come and go but Radiator Woman and her Used Parts stand firm!
I sure would like to see a photo of Radiator Woman.
A project for next time!
Me too! Great set of photos, Patti!
🙂
Showdown at Hunt’s Pt!
Exactly!
Me too! Sounds like a super hero for the 21st century.
Complete with Used Parts!
You will never here that tune the same way again;)
Something creepy to begin with just became more so . . . .!
Mister Softee didn’t stand a chance.
And it always comes back for more.
Oh, the Mister Softee soundtrack of summer! (drove me a bit mental at times, to be honest)
Tones of Donnie Darko if you ask me!
Ha, ha, brilliant! Classic timing – great captures, Patti!
I knew it was out there somewhere . . . . thank you Richard!
Great post and images Patti 🙂 I couldn’t help thinking of the Eddie Murphy comedy skit when I saw the Mister Softee truck “The Ice Cream Man Is Coming” !!!! God what annoying music.
Doesn’t matter where you go in the city Joe . . . . this Mr Softee is everywhere!
Radiator Woman ?!? Wow, between scaring and …
robert
PS: good sequence Patti!
I know! Now I have to go back and get the back story of how Radiator Woman came to be.
Damnit now I want ice cream. 😛
🙂 You know where to go!
fab! Love the scene setting, and the final showdown!
Thank you so much Emily, that showdown took a long time coming!
Your ‘Spark-plug man’ is coming to to town..
This town ‘aint big enough for Radiator Woman and Spark-Plug Man, only one can win!
That’s right!
You bet!
When I saw part of the sign “Woman – Used Parts”, I thought it had a completely different meaning!
I want to know more about your different meaning!
When I saw the sign “woman – used parts” my twisted brain immediately thought that someone was selling used parts from a female body!
😀 well spotted and you captured the moment very well!
As I said earlier Indah, it was a long time coming and it had to happen here. Yay Radiator Woman!
ok, I had to google the Mr Softee truck music (we dont have this here lol ))… it’s hilarious against the background of Woman Used Parts lol…
awesome timing, Patti!!
Alexandra, that was above and beyond the call of duty to google that soundtrack but at least you now get a sound of what you are missing!!! Thank you so much for all your kind words!
the corrugated fence knocks me out, brings back lots of memories in my life and film, looking at the radiator woman sign I see Julia Sweeney in pulp fiction at the junk yard where they ditch the car. you always capture a story in your photos, wonderful stories, thank you, Patti.
ps dreamy kodachrome-ish shot of Mister Softee truck, David Lynch would snatch it.
Tommy, let’s write our own screenplay!
The Yin-Yang of the two is perfect, Patti. Terrific series.
Yin-Yang sounds as though it should be an ice-cream flavour, for compensation. Thank you Jane!
Hilarious!
Always good to see used parts in action, thank you Lyn!
Over here, the equivalent Mr Whippee trucks used to play Greensleeves as their tune. My head always turns whenever I hear it.
They get around don’t they!
Love it! Kind of a good creepy!
I know what you mean!
You didn’t hear and gunfire did you Patti – only, the last time I saw one of those Mr Softee vans was in the film Assault on Precinct 13 😉 Interesting sequence of shots… I mean photographs!
Now Martin the thought of that terrifies me, as though the music from the van isn’t bad enough!
That movie was something else – John Carpenter at his best! And the music… simple but effective (John Carpenter again).
