I wonder if you can smoke snow 😉 Luvly stuff – just wish I was out in it with you taking photos! Just love the determined trudging of the people in this image.
You would not be able to see such blatant advertising here of tobacco. They are now sold in plain packaging and behind locked cupboards. In Australia they at least managed to get that done. But, in any case, love the snow and storms in NYC. At least nature at work. Great photo and I’ll put on my polar jacket now.
I forgot all about that aspect and didn’t even register the word as advertising, how slack am I! Drugstores here, chemists there, doing a roaring trade in selling cigarettes, beer, sweets/candy, lottery tickets and the National Enquirer before you even go looking for an aspirin or whatever.
Great picture. And there really are some tobacco shops left! Here they ran out of business, partly because who needs a sigar when you are not allowed to smoke it anywhere but outside in the snow, and partly because every tobacco product now have to be concealed in the shops, not allowed to be displayed. Crazy laws, there are so many other health hazards that should have been of more concern. Like sugar.
Sugar is so big here Bente and slowly becoming an issue with the super-sized drinks on offer but lobbyists have yet to lose their muscle on this one. Cigarettes are still in their colourful packets and there are cigar shops around which have lounge areas for smoking, and watching live sport on big-screen tv’s. I might live forever and will always be amazed at the number of young people smoking.
Snow unknown this winter in me area.
Nice picture!
Kind regards,
Thank you Rob!
Super nice photo!!!
Thank you so much Antonia!
Gotta love this stuff Patti … NOT ! Great shot 🙂
Had enough already Joe?

Thank you Martin, if you ever come to NY let me know!
Looks like the snow will never end in NYC – but it makes for great pictures 🙂
Just when we think it’s all over . . . . but yes, fun to go out and try for some shots, thank you Rabirius!
Black and white photography rocks!
Thank you Margie!

OK, maybe I really don’t miss winter that much.
You can enjoy the virtual reality instead Emilio!
Quintessential NYC winter! Great.
Thank you so much Elena!
I experienced this kind of scene, a while back in Boston. Actually I enjoyed it. 🙂
Boston has been getting a walloping this winter Lignum, were you there during this one? Definitely a big change from summer sea and sand!
No, quite a while ago. But one winter in Boston is enough for a lifetime. 🙂
Wonderful image!
Thank you so much Lyn!
My first thought on seeing this photo: What museum is it from? A stunner.
(The snow doesn’t mean much to me, I live in New England!)
What a treat to read, thank you so much Judith! As for the snow, it has to leave town one day soon I hope for you!
Oh my that looks brutally cold!! Another gritty street shot.
Tobacco and snow.
