LA Heat Wave Cool

What you do to keep cool in a heat wave . . .
Back in LA and exploring beyond Downtown all the way out to glorious Venice Beach. So much crazy on the
beachfront and for once I was almost grateful to run up against CARD FULL, without a spare, on the DLSR
not long after first footsteps on the sand. So a few shots from the trusty iPhone.
Away from the beach and hidden behind the ordinary come and go streets is the maze of canals lending a
lazy calm in contrast to the nearby beach circus.
As for my new friends in the second shot, they were paying homage to Arnie. They didn't believe me when
I told them they were all much better looking than Arnie - "No-one looks better than Arnie!" Crazy Swedes,
they weren't interested in listening to me.

Fantastic shots, but how can I hope to compete with those boys? I think the beach shot is superb, somehow the black and white makes it even more inviting.
Strength of mind Gerard, it aways wins!
Fab photos; glad you kept your cool when you found your card full.
Thank you Angeline. Certainly not the end of the world!
You are in Los Angeles…well Venice OMG I was born in South Central L.A. next door to Exposition Park and the Coliseum. Your photos make me homesick for a bit of heat and the lush blend of carbon monoxide, pool chlorine and Hibiscus flowers. You know what they say…once you have drunk from the waters of the Polo Lounge you can never go home again. Have fun! (Don’t eat the Lotus…they sneek it into the avacado salad at Musso and Franks. Next trip…come see me in San Francisco. xo
Hello Lanier and so good to hear your LA memories. I remember the story about your Grandmother in that big car of hers. Strange isn’t it the trigger points which drag us back into our pasts. How often do you make it back down here? Thank you for the San Francisco invite, can’t wait! Until then, all best to you, wherever you are!
Patti you once again made my day. Do let me know if you ever do get anywhere near Babylon By The Bay. I get down to LA maybe once every 7 to 10 years…isn’t that horrible? xo
Not so horrible at all Lanier – circumstances and the time it takes to find a comfort zone are not to be under-estimated! Will keep you posted on when next lucky enough to be up in your beautiful part of the world!
Excuse me but nobody looks better than Arnie? Heck, even I look better than Arnie!
Nostalgia for times not known does the craziest things don’t you think? Every where I go now I hear songs from the 80’s, as though it’s the first time round, songs I didn’t even like first time round. And yes Emilio, you with that cute little avatar, have it all over Arnie!
Love the muscle men photo.Classic Venice Beach. That place is always a freak show.
Thank you so much and yes I know exactly what you mean about the freak show. The Swedish muscle men were the unexpected cherries on the cake!
What a glorious location, love the shots
Thank you so much!
In black and white, everything becomes so timeless. Even the guys. Yes…. almost. But definitely the beach.
With so many different filters, apps, etc available I find it easier to stick with the B & W on my phone and so pleased you enjoyed. Thank you Antonia!
Some scenes/situations are repeated theirselves over and over again, it seems that it will be yesterday forever.
What to do Marcelo?
B/w makes this work splendidly!!
Doing my best to keep it simple . . . Thank you Derrick!
love thes photos on b/w. tells the story the best way
Thank you so much Inge, always lovely to hear from you!
Beautiful shots, Patti! We’d be in trouble if no one looked better than Arnie – have you seen the way he dresses?
No accounting for tastes is there . . . not too sure which version of Arnie is the better, dressed or Speedo’d?
I LOVE!!!!! your black and whites…. can’t believe you took this from your iPhone! Simply beautiful..
LFR, your wonderful support means so much! Big, big thank you!
These are all beautiful big dramatic shots. Excellent B/W’s.
Thank you so much Allan, my way of inviting everyone into the water!
Exciting contrasts! The photographer’s job is so hard *)
So hard, thank you Annie! 🙂
Greta stop-by at roid-farm!
Greta should stop by there too, but what I meant to say was “great”. (I guess that the roid rage must have interfered with my spelling).
Fingers slip, I know mine do all the time plus the WP spell-checker is such a presumptuous little brat. Meanwhile back at the roid-farm(!) I thought the wall was good enough on its own, relatively speaking, but to find these Swedes bowing to the altar of Arnie, well . . . I think I offered to be their tour photographer. Actually, I did offer but I think they thought I was joking.
Fantastic set Patti 🙂
The monochrome approach really adds to the sensation of heat and that bright, bright light 🙂
Those beloved golden hours tend to pass me by . . . 😦
Thank you Geoff 🙂
Patti, the processing her is so appropriate for these images – really, really good! Each one.
Thank you so much Lyn but I would like to thank my iPhone for being such a little trooper!
beach circus… Schwarzenegger’s macho world – contrast: I remember your photos from UK when you canceled your home there – packing silver cups into the suitcases…
Who knows where the road takes us? Thank you dear Frizz!
Love these images, they have a wonderful retro/old Hollywood look! My cell phone pics never look this good!
Now Susan, I’m sure you take great shots with your phone, you have such a good eye!
That first shot of Venice beach is fantastic – looks vintage 🙂
Thank you so much Paula! Any interest in exploring the US west coast at all?
Too far to dream, Patti.
That’s not a “no” then!
Love the Bl and Wh. FAntastic!
Glad you love the B & W, thank you Elena!
Would never have known these were phone shots, amazing! Can absolutely feel the searing white heat where all you can see is the shapes..
That’s a wonderful and interesting way of describing it, thank you Cath!!
Wonderful shots Patti. That window is judiciously placed over Arnie’s trunks. 🙂
Thank you Lignum but please don’t get me started on Arnie and that window!
Great to see these photos, yes your friends are superlative 🙂
robert
Thank you Robert, and I hope my friends stay at this stage of superlative without feeling the need to pump more of the Arnie muscle.
those muscle boys looks really cool 😉
