A bitterly cold day took hold of the city yesterday but that didn't stop the Santa crowd from celebrating the annual SantaCon2013. Love it or loathe it, it was hard to avoid. Snow fell for most of the day and the night, not a night to be left out in the cold . . .
Nice one!
Thank you Han, hope you are warm where you are!
I’m hoping for snow. Seeing your pictures I remember what it does for colors.
Wet, 5 above 0 is what we have. Rainy.
I’m a coward. Yesterday I spent the day cowering from the weather. Your pictures are beautiful.
Very sensible of you Tom! I was keen to make the most of it before leaving tomorrow for the UK otherwise I think I might have stayed indoors as well. You take care and keep warm!
Reblogged this on tomwisk and commented:
People who arrive here see things that we either fear or tolerate and see beauty in them.
Tom, you are beautiful!
What a fantastic set of images !!!
Winter is nice in NY
Thanks for sharing Patti
🙂
Thank you HG! I am a happy winter bunny but this wasn’t the most playful of snowfalls. It was cold, wet and bitter but more than happy to share with you, thank you!
A white Christmas after all. A smorgasbord for the eye, particularly the half dressed mannequins in tights braving the cold. The man pleading for someone to buy a nice warm kebab. That mad Santa from Finland, very used to the cold!
Excellent again.
Gerard, a confession . . .. I should have been out Christmas shopping, there was more than enough opportunity what with the shops etc I passed by but really, I am no good at it. How am I, how are any of us, able to spend $$’s for this that or the other as a way of saying how much family and friends mean to us? How much we really love them? And how much do we really need? Wishing you a warm kebab and not just for Christmas!
I really enjoyed seeing these images. They are all good, but the first one is extra interesting. It’s a story, and you told it.
Ninano, so many stories out there and somehow they find shelter. Thank you so much.
Oh, wow, this looks really cold! That weather is perfect if you need an excuse to decide not to go out. Great capture of the winter impressions in NYC, Patti.
Anette, you have to come back to New York!
Oh, I will! As soon as I can!
You have captured New York’s cold “perfectly” Patti. Love the way you caught the lights in each photo…..sooooooo colddddddddd!
Burgess, it was sooooo cold. Thank you for your warm words!
To this guy about to have Christmas in summer, that looks COLD!
Merry Christmas Patti.
Merry Christmas to you Lignum, keep cool!
And don’t forget your sunscreen!
Terrific shots, Patti. I would not be able to smile in this weather 😀
Paula, I hope the weather stays good enough for you to keep smiling!
We got by the system on Friday and Saturday. Our first big dig out is coming to an end but the forecast indicates that more is coming by Wednesday.
Second to the last picture, was that Santa dancing?
Enjoy the calm before the next lot Allan and hope it’s not too bad for you all. That Santa was slipping and sliding in the snow with a touch of the dancing!
Ugh! Snow. We have been really lucky this year so far. Only one light frost and the sun soon came out and melted that. Another cracking set of photographs, Patti. Makes me feel cold looking at them
Wow Mike, that is warm for this time of year with only one light frost, isn’t it? Thank you for your kind words!
Nice! And are you in the UK now? Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, PK. xx
Thank you Gaynor and yes, physically I am now in the UK but not sure where the head is . . . Wishing you an abundance of Christmas joys to your world!
thanks for the amusing gallery, Patti!
Thank you for being amused dear Frizz!
vs. the cold: MUSIC!

Thank you for your warm blues Frizz and Gernot!
All the best Patti – personally I love Santa Con – it is a fun time without the amateurs :>) Some fun shots in this set !!!
Thank you Pat and all best wishes to you! Did you get out and about for some Santa Con fun?
Brave people!!! You too Patti 🙂 Those pavements look treacherous!
The footpaths were sloppy in parts but then I hadn’t been out drinking all day like quite a few of the Santas! (I just hope they all made it home ok.) But it was fun, thank you so much Madhu!
Uuuh… Lots of snow.
Please, post a picture of the christmas tree at Rockefeller with the snow. I’ve never seen that before 🙂
I shall try and get a shot of the Rockefeller tree after Christmas and hopefully we will have more snow. Pre-Christmas it’s a part of town I do my best to avoid because of the huge crowds although late at night would be good!
haha… 🙂
I know what you mean. Please visit my blog on monday, 23rd of Dec. – I’ve made a picture of the croud you mentioned at Fifth Ave near the christmas tree on a saturday evening two weeks ago. Great experience 😉
Wow, you really got a lot of winter in the big city. Even more then we at the moment. I guess you know how to handle it, Patti. A very good series!
And it’s only just the beginning of winter. Thank you Bente. Enjoy your snow when it arrives!
Oh yes, you’ve captured the bite, and the mess of it all, and the resiliency required to get through it!
So pleased you noticed the mess, thank you Lyn!!!
The man in the candy cane suit looks very festive. 🙂
He was such a sweetie!
Terrific images Patti and I have to say I am still waiting for some snow here. Loads of rain and 70 mph winds, not what we expect for a Christmas wonderland……once again wonderful images. Hope you have an enjoyable Christmas
Thank you James and do hope Christmas was warm, dry and full of good cheer for you!
Thanks you very much Patti, it was a quiet affair, but plenty of food and the odd drink as well as time to think of those less fortunate as I managed some time working in a soup kitchen.
Priceless shots Patti!
Thank you Elena!!
I just love coming into your world here Patti..so real and full of the immediate..brilliant.
Oh and the candy cane outfit! Love!
Cath, don’t you just wish you had your very own candy-cane outfit! Thank you so much Cath and always lovely to share our different worlds, Happy New Year wishes to you!
What a great set of photographs, I felt transported!
