Swing Your Partner
At Byrant Park this week a summer blow-out to a blur of bright-lights, music and . . . Square Dancing! Difficult to escape the bright lights and colour but you wouldn't have been there if it is was a quiet night you were after although there were dark corners in which to sit back and enjoy the exuberance of others. The smell of that freshly cut grass in the city? Priceless!
These are just the best set of event photos! I just love your work!
Shucks, thanks Elena!
you made my day (week!) with this report, Patti!
You would have LOVED it there Frizz!
(Perhaps the world might be a better place if we all went Square Dancing!!!)
Party in the park, great set of photographs, Patti.
Thank you Mike, it was such a fun evening and thoroughly recommend it, even if I didn’t get to dance . . . !
lovely … wonderful … thank you, Patti!
You are so sweet, thank you Anette!
Square dancing? must be in “western” NYC
Ha ha, you got that one right Carl – the Wild West 42nd St!
Looks like lots of fun was had by all 🙂 Great series.
David, come back next summer – I know you would get some great shots. And have fun!
Allemande left and do-si-do! Thanks for the dance, Patti – whoo!
Wow Pierr, you know the words! I’m impressed!
What a fab post Patti!! I adore Bryant Park, and what a fun event. Your candid shots are awesome. I have to pin the one with the twinkle lights on my Pinterest board under “In the City”. xx, Margie
Oh Margie, the stories the grass of Bryant Park could tell! Here’s to the twinkle!
Fantastic serie Patti, really fantastic
Film version due for release soon – Swing your partner! 🙂
Always a joy to see your wonderful montage of city life, real city life! Thank you, Patti, for sharing all this with us!
Annie, what if Amazon were to get some Square Dancing jigs going? In your spare time with energy to spare . . .
Love NYC at night! Spectacular photos of all the people that make up the great city!
NYC at night is a special place indeed! Throw in a Square Dance and what’s not to love? Alison, have you been back to visit since leaving?
Wonderful photos, it’s always interesting to visit your blog. It’s like being there.
Carlos, thank you for your kind words particularly as you come from the land of the . . . . . .. Tango! Meanwhile here in NYC where it’s Do-Ci-Do and Promenade, welcome! Let’s dance!
Great series of shots Patti. Looks like it was a very fun and colourful festival. Did you put the camera down long enough to do a jig? 🙂
Lignum, the fun to have dancing a jig with a camera in hand – my one trusty partner. Which explains the sort of blurry bits/fun of the evening! 🙂
You had a lot of fun, I can tell. The weather looks still warm. What a temptation for us the act rashly and pop over.
Pop it in your diary for next year and yes, you will have fun!
Wow, what a fun festival. You captured some really wonderful smiles. Great series Patti.
Beth, it was so much fun, thank you!!
What a city,
That’s for sure!
Such fun! Were you just passing, or did you know it was on? And next time, grab a partner and have a whirl, girl!
I wanted to go the Friday night of the week before but a certain some-one wasn’t too keen so I made sure to go this time which was the last one of the summer! Which all worked out fine anyway because on my own I get to take as many photos as I want without holding anyone up!
so beautiful again, the whole world swinging 😉
Thank you Inge! I keep hearing the singer call out “Swing your partner!”
Fabulous! You really captured the energy. Looks like great fun, and loving all the hats!
Aren’t the hats a hoot! Thank you so much!
Fun filled set of shots – especially like #4 from the bottom :>)
Thank you Pat, he had such a gentle touch!
Let’s dance for fear
your grace should fall
Let’s dance for fear tonight is all
David Bowie – Let’s Dance
While color lights up your face
let’s sway through the crowd to an empty space!
(We all of us should dance more often, don’t you think?)
Oh I love these Patti!!! What a fun evening- and wonderful photographs!
Thank you for your kind words and yes, fun for everyone!
Four ladies back-to-back;
Men promenade the outside track.
Once again on a heel-and-toe,
Step right up and promenade.
Promenade on a two-by-two,
You get ‘er on home that’s what you do . . .
Fantastic set, Patti! Looks like a great night. Love the depth and variety you achieved.
It was such a great night, thank you Richard – a little like bluegrass going disco what with the bright lights!
Square dancing in NYC??? No way!! LOL, nice work Patti!!
Yes way Derrick! You have no excuse now not to visit and swing your partner!
Really nice photos you have here. so many happy faces and few backs also 😛
Thank you Singh – they kept turning round and round!
A wonderful collection of images Patti that have one overall riding theme…JOY! I do so enjoy your work…inspiring words and an images that can be playful or provoke.
You are so kind, thank you James! It was such great fun to be a part of so many strangers and friends coming together in the middle of this city to square dance of all things!
OMG …. you must swear to secrecy. My hubby and I took square dancing way back when. Too many years to remember. I have to admit it was fun. In a 3 hour session – yes, 3 hours of dancin’ with 5 minute breaks – we would walk 5 miles. It was a great way to lose weight and stay in shape. YES … I wore those short skirts with the fluffy under things. I was cute and adorable then. hahaha
This was a trip down memory lane for me. Hey … love the 1st pix. Checkered nail design …. soo chic. ~~~~~~ : – )
Promise I won’t tell a soul Issy! And what great memories for you and hubby – any photos you might want to share from back in the day???
A wonderful collection of footwear, hats and fingernails 😀 Almost feels like being there 🙂 I hope you had a great fun, Patti!
Thank you Paula, it was great fun even if I didn’t get to swing my partner! When did you last go dancing?
😀 Hi Patti 🙂 I only go out dancing when I have to, but I do it occasionally in the privacy of my home 🙂
Great images of people having fun 🙂
I have come to the conclusion Martin that if you can’t have fun Square Dancing, well . . .
very cool and loved the light falling on the hair in the first picture 🙂
Joshi, I was so excited to see that red light and the way it halo’d her – like she needed more colour but she wears it all so well!
Pictures so full of positive energy! They radiate joy and fun. Wonderfully captured, Patti!
Thank you Otto and yes, the evening was so full of positive energy which is always so reassuring anywhere let alone in a city the size of NY. But always, after nights like this, I have to take the long way home to walk off the energy!
Outstanding set Patti!!! That first shot especially with the red halo and fab DOF! Adore her blue glasses and checkered nails as well 🙂
