There are no imperfections in photos only embellishments that weren’t planned. I love the B&W but the color is stunning.
That certainly changes the view, the embellishments I mean! So pleased you enjoy the colour, I have a big soft spot for smudgy red neon lights!
The reflections of the lights in the first shot look like a row of friendly little UFOs, investigating Union Square. I’ve obviously watched too much of The Jetsons in my youth…
Gaynor, no such thing as too much of The Jetsons and the valuable cultural heritage we gained during those formative years! 🙂

I liked the top photo most with that hooded figure on the right adding drama to the shot. Was he/she just standing there waiting for someone? I am glad you took that shot inside. It all looks a bit brrr,brrr to me even though the yellow and orange do give the shots a feeling of intimacy. In Australia our summer is finished and the deciduous trees are turning into amber gold. Thank you for those lovely images.

I can only guess that he was waiting there for someone – it was a quick shot from inside the crowded coffee shop, hoping that I had adjusted the settings from outside before the lens started frosting up! It is cold but if you keep moving it is not too bad and nowhere near the worst cold I have experienced. Enjoy your cool autumnal pleasures!

I had the same reaction as Gaynor to the first picture. The reflections of the lights look like little spaceships hovering over the street. Great shots, as always, Patti. By the way, the snow arrived here last night.

I like the imperfections and reflections. You have really captured the spirit of the time and place. Everybody is just longing for a bit of spring and warmer days. The warm glow on the last picture says it all.

Thank you Madhu! I meant to mention in my post that the first shot, for better or worse, was taken from the inside of Starbucks (one of three!) down on Union Sq. Starbucks gets such a bad wrap, not to mention getting my name all wrong, but for sitting and watching the world go by, albeit with a hot sweet milky energy sustaining drink with a whiff of coffee, is sometimes just what we need!
I think you beautifully caught the “gezellig” atmosphere of Union Square, no matter the weather. (I wish there was an exact translation for gezellig. It’s cozy, but also friendly, comfortable, happy …)

Snow in the city is different from snow anywhere else.
If one could imagine such a thing as “urban snow”, or maybe urbane, that’s what you’ve captured. It’s companionable. And colorful. Two attributes one doesn’t usually expect of snowfalls.
Even the condensation lends an unexpected warmth, another unusual attribute!
Judith, I love the idea of urbane snow, even if we do have to jump over the later brown slushy corner mounds. Hope you are keeping warm and comfortable where you are. It has been such a long winter . . . .
