Inside Out

Some recent snow shots, before winter fades/bursts into spring! Or what happens when you go from warm and dry inside to cold, wet, freezing snow on the outside. And makes its breathy way into the lens . . . Imperfections and reflections, with a little warm glow on the side to go! * * * * *
Very good idea beautifully done .
Thank you very much indeed anisjarossi!
There are no imperfections in photos only embellishments that weren’t planned. I love the B&W but the color is stunning.
That certainly changes the view, the embellishments I mean! So pleased you enjoy the colour, I have a big soft spot for smudgy red neon lights!
The reflections of the lights in the first shot look like a row of friendly little UFOs, investigating Union Square. I’ve obviously watched too much of The Jetsons in my youth…
Gaynor, no such thing as too much of The Jetsons and the valuable cultural heritage we gained during those formative years! π
what atmosphere!
It was fun, thank you Olive!
I liked the top photo most with that hooded figure on the right adding drama to the shot. Was he/she just standing there waiting for someone? I am glad you took that shot inside. It all looks a bit brrr, brrr to me even though the yellow and orange do give the shots a feeling of intimacy. In Australia our summer is finished and the deciduous trees are turning into amber gold. Thank you for those lovely images.
Thank you s much Gerard! I can only guess that he was waiting there for someone – it was a quick shot from inside the crowded coffee shop, hoping that I had adjusted the settings from outside before the lens started frosting up! It is cold but if you keep moving it is not too bad and nowhere near the worst cold I have experienced. Enjoy your cool autumnal pleasures!
Crosswalks, coffee, and the indefatigable Patti view! I love all the things you see, decipher and show through your camera lens.
So says the indefatigable Annie! Where would we be without our coffee!
Ah, now Patti – it’s lovely and warm inside, I’m not sure I want to go out into that slushy damp cold – looks awful! I very much enjoyed this whimsical stop at the coffee shop. π
I should be throwing some whiskey into the coffee today Meredith. Always lovely to have your company!
80 degrees and wildflowers here!! π
Just FYI. π π π
Derrick, I am so happy for you, not to mention that recent glorious golden sunset of yours! Snowing heavily here . . .
I know it is cold there but there is a certain immense warmth in these photographs. Does that make sense?
Yes Lanier, that does make sense and very sweet of you to say! It’s Irish Coffee day today, what with the St Pat’s day parade!
I knew a girl once named Erin B. Goraha…happy St. Paddies day!
and the same with you!
These are just wonderful!
Thank you so much EF!
You are extremely talented. I love seeing your work.
It’s always nice to see your N.Y. photos. Have a great weekend!
Thank you so much CG and weekend wishes to you!
I had the same reaction as Gaynor to the first picture. The reflections of the lights look like little spaceships hovering over the street. Great shots, as always, Patti. By the way, the snow arrived here last night.
Spaceships and aliens should feel right at home down at Union Sq! Snowing here now Charles and thank you as always for kind words!
As someone who wears glasses, that last shot doesn’t look odd, just realistic.
I share your view!
superbe ces scenes de rue hivernales
Merci beaucoup!
I love the warmth and atmosphere of these, Patti! The blooms of colour and signs of breath. That first shot is a stunning composition!
Thank you so much Richard, hope you make it over here one day soon – you would love it here! And they would love you!
I like the imperfections and reflections. You have really captured the spirit of the time and place. Everybody is just longing for a bit of spring and warmer days. The warm glow on the last picture says it all.
That paradise is as near as the warm glow of a coffee beacon! I’m not sure where I would be without it. Warm wishes and grateful thanks to you Otto!
Love the first one too Patti…so many layers to that shot, and loads of atmosphere!
Thank you Madhu! I meant to mention in my post that the first shot, for better or worse, was taken from the inside of Starbucks (one of three!) down on Union Sq. Starbucks gets such a bad wrap, not to mention getting my name all wrong, but for sitting and watching the world go by, albeit with a hot sweet milky energy sustaining drink with a whiff of coffee, is sometimes just what we need!
I think you beautifully caught the “gezellig” atmosphere of Union Square, no matter the weather. (I wish there was an exact translation for gezellig. It’s cozy, but also friendly, comfortable, happy …)
I am so happy to have “gezellig” speak for itself, thank you Alison!
Snow in the city is different from snow anywhere else.
If one could imagine such a thing as “urban snow”, or maybe urbane, that’s what you’ve captured. It’s companionable. And colorful. Two attributes one doesn’t usually expect of snowfalls.
Even the condensation lends an unexpected warmth, another unusual attribute!
Judith, I love the idea of urbane snow, even if we do have to jump over the later brown slushy corner mounds. Hope you are keeping warm and comfortable where you are. It has been such a long winter . . . .
Cool shots π
And the same bad weather like here in Germany.
I like your art of seeing New York – you seem to love the city and its people π
Thank you mcralf for your kind words! To be honest though, I prefer cold bad weather to hot bad weather, what about you?
(and yes you are right, I do love this city and its people!)
The sign from Nell’s Coffee shop looks like it’s on fire. What a fabulous shot. Love it ….
You can get anything you want at Neil’s Restaurant, or rather his Coffee Shop. I love the grilled cheese sandwich!
Now, this weather looks more like the one we have right now… Loving these shots….
Hope by now you are enjoying some lovely spring sunshine Paula!
Not yet π but soon π
