Weekly Photo Challenge: Simple
The beguiling simplicity of the desert . . . this is Roy’s, in the town of Amboy which was once a major stop along the old Route 66, through the spectacular Mojave Desert in California.

Cool. I’ve heard so many things about Route 66. Margie
It is definitely that type of place!
Cool photo!
Why, thank you Cardinal Guzman!
What a great view of Mojave Desert nice work Patti 🙂
It is such a beautiful part of the world. Thanks Jake!
Congratulation my friend you deserve to have this

That’s a really cool sign, love those 50s’ colours.
The road back in time, you should see the lobby!
I love those old motel signs 🙂
and to think they were once so full of exotic promise. Or at least a step up from the caravan!
The famous Route 66. This is a really nice shot. 😉
Thank you so much eof! Definitely hoping to explore more of this famous route, and others not so famous!
Lovely photo Patti! The desert must be a wonderful place to take landscape photos and macro nature photos.
Theresa, you are so right about the desert being a wonderful place to take photos but, like you, in the passenger seat, so many of my views are of the drive by sort! If it were up to me we would still be out there!
Don’t you just love the stark beauty and open vast sky of the desert? I love that shot of the sign. Very beautiful yet eerie, Patti !
Oh Kate, that something so stark could be so . . . . I am having difficulty getting the words together to describe it all, or rather the feeling that is so much a part of being a tiny speck in that awesome landscape!
Love Route 66! Have you seen the new book, Route 66 Sightings, by three photographers: Jim Ross, Shellee Graham and Jerry McClanahan? It has many great shots just like yours 🙂
Hello Sunshine and thank you so much for the recommendation – will definitely look out for it!
Nice shot!
Thank you Britten!
Excellent capture : )
Thank you so much Just Ramblin’
what a great composition
Thank you Kris, the scene just seemed to arrange itself!
nice! thanks for sharing!
My pleasure, thank you Nelson!
Nice photo. Looks so peaceful and quiet there.
Very quiet and peaceful indeed, even with the freight trains running through!
that’s ART!!!
Frizz! I am . . . . speechless. Thank you!
The sign is indeed ART!
I tried Liking you, but it wouldn’t let me, so, consider yourself Liked.

Not sure what went wrong with the Like button but so pleased you made it this far, thank you. Popping over soon to f-stop fantasy!
Very nice Patti!
Thank you very much indeed Gracie!
Wonderful. I’ve actually been there!
Isn’t such an interesting part of the world?
Yes, indeed! I wish I could have spent more time in that area. I have a fly-by shot of the Amboy crater. I was driving Rte 66, but in July of ’09 when it was 107 outside! Afraid I was too much of a wimp to brave the elements…I really want to go back and explore some more.
Nice picture. What a spectacular view of the desert.
Death Valley and Joshua Tree are not that far away, all being relative, but for some reason I adore the Mojave Desert which is indeed spectacular but with a special quietness to it.
Simple enough lol 😉 http://wp.me/p1j16x-3p
Just following instructions. Thank you Cobbies!
I love the old signs. Great shot!
Installation Art at its finest, dare I suggest?
we did it, two of us in 1966, both australians heading for california from florida in a new jersy ford .. probably stayed in that motel – that’s when I first saw you PK .. snap!
get out of that matey
OK Pete, relying on you to tell the story from this chapter. I know it will be a good one!
I love ole fashioned signs! Great job!
Aren’t they wonderful – flashy and faded at the same time!
I love old signs holding down the desert. great shot!
They certainly do hold down their own!
What happened to the hotel? Vanished? Hmm…made me think of supernatural stuff happening in the desert. The vast , almost empty landscape made us realize the importance of being simple. We all do need a piece of that. A lot of times, being simple is the key to inner peace and happiness. Thanks for sharing a super cool photo. Stay blessed my friend.
Amboy, the town, has a fascinating history, which had I had the time, I might have gone into more detail in the post. A potted history – Rt66Roy’s has it going bankrupt, offered For Sale on eBay (!), repossessed and finally bought by a developer who wants to preserve the simple romanticism.
Simple excellence! You got it all right, kudos 🙂
Thank you Madman.
Thanks for the last comment. Hope you like my gift today. It’s a beautiful award, with generous intentions and all. I got it the other day and I think it’s a great way to let others know that we care and that people matter. Have a blessed day my friend.

My dad’s name was Roy. He would have gotten a kick out of your cool photo. Great shot.
And where better to be getting that kick, than on . . . you know where!
The sign looks lonely out there in the desert!
It certainly is a stand out in the desert landscape! There is a cafe with other buildings etc nearby.
Simply elegant!
I think it has such a sense of ‘history’ to it, too… and the whole fading glory thing…
So cool!
🙂
Thank you SiG! Throw in a mile or two of freight train and all that is missing is the soundtrack. And Clint!
Hi Patti, I simply love this photograph, and was wondering if there was any chance I could use this as a base for a project I am doing at Vancouver Film School.
The photo will be heavily modified with 2D/3D techniques to achieve a set extension, and your integrity will be fully respected. I am trying to find some contact information to talk a little more about this with you, as I would like to have your permissions if at all possible!
I love your site, and photos! Keep up the amazing work! I will continue looking for a email for you, but in case you find this first drop me a email :).
