Breakfast in the Big Apple
My plan had been to put into words the magic of early morning Manhattan before the crowds hit the streets but Truman Capote did that with Holly Golightly’s fantasy that is forever Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
The reality however was coffee, bagels and a croissant over on the West Side at Zabar’s. The warmth of the early morning sunshine gave our breakfast a sparkle and shine that no amount of money could ever buy.
His bagel . . .
my croissant. With a bright yellow taxi.
*sigh* I miss New York. Need to spend more time in the future!
Love to think of what you could do here with your camera! Hope you get here soon!
ooh I know right! You will definitely need to be my tour guide.
How much fun that would be! Just let me know when!
Nostalgia — big time!
Happy Thanksgiving, Patti —
Nostalgia is such a playful little creature don’t you think? All it takes is one small simple detail and suddenly, as you said – big time hits!
All best wishes to you and your family for a Happy Thanksgiving also!
Love your caption for the second photo. Great capture. : )
The big yellow taxi that didn’t take away my old man! Thank you for your company!
The simple things in life like coffee with bagel on a sunny peaceful day may all we need for a happy and blissful day. thanks for sharing a beautiful breakfast morning in New York. I value days like this, uncomplicated, genuine, just perfect so I can be myself. love this words, ” The warmth of the early morning sunshine gave our breakfast a sparkle and shine that no amount of money could ever buy.”
Happy Thanksgiving my friend….did you watch the Macy’s Parade?
. . . .and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Thank you so much for your best wishes, your lovely generous comment and here’s to the ultimate joy of simplicity in our lives. Wherever we are fortunate enough to find and share it!

Yes, that part Broadway ,where the grocery stores are so good, was busy with local Saturday morning shoppers.
Thank you Frizztext for greetings!
Coffee, bagels and a croissant wow yummy 🙂
Still love your breakfast with the morning papers!
I still have a ZABAR’S bag from our last NYC visit …
The graphics are so NYC iconic aren’t they! They do the most fabulous streudels which never last long in our household. Hope you get to come back and enjoy another time!
It is indeed something special to experience New York city waking up. Your pictures have this bright morning mode I associate with New York mornings. I really like the second photo with the woman coming in from the left, the taxi from right, the bright light flooding down on the city and your croissant and coffee. Great!
Thank you very much indeed for your comment, Munchow. I very appreciate hearing from you! What I love about NY is the bright light that shines on some of the coldest days here and, for all the “glamour” of the city, it really is a fabulous collection of wonderfully ordinary, everyday neighbourhoods.
Love the photo with the taxi through the window!
Thank you Ruth, the taxi really does stand out, doesn’t it!
Hi Patty,
Ali here from Manifest I hope you’re well? First off I just wanted to say I love the blog, I haven’t been to New York yet but just reading your blog makes me so envious!
I actually wanted to get in touch regarding a cool idea for helping ex-pats with Christmas – I will put my email address below in the contact details section but if you have a spare 5 mins please do email me so I can tell you more and I have a little gift to get you into the Christmas spirit early if that is ok!
Thanks,
Ali
Hello Ali, look fwd to hearing more form you and hope you get to NYC soon. Thanks for enjoying the blog!
I think this line: “early morning sunshine gave our breakfast a sparkle and shine that no amount of money could ever buy” is pure happiness. Love it 🙂
The little things really do add up to meaning so much and always a pleasure to share some happiness with you, thank you!
My husband is a former New Yorker who has to have ‘real’ butter on his bagels. I’ll have to ask him if he’s ever eaten at Zabar’s. Great photos.
Oh, I am such a demon for “real” butter (accept no substitutes!) but my favourite on a bagel is lox and cream cheese, without butter! Does your husband miss NY at all? If you ever visit I am sure you would enjoy a walk through Zabar’s!
“The warmth of the early morning sunshine gave our breakfast a sparkle and shine that no amount of money could ever buy” – I love that! Sometimes we take for granted simple things in our lives, but these are the things that make us really happy 🙂
I love having breakfast out in the sun! Great photos!
Thank you Grace! Sunshine does indeed make the world of difference!
